Jette Rune Scott
I was born in Copenhagen, Denmark at the end of World War II into a family full of artists, musicians and actors. My father was an early influence on me since all of my storybooks were written and illustrated by him. I'm sure this was out of necessity during such hard times, but for me I just thought that everyone had storybooks like that. My father was a patron of the arts and many times would bring artists home for a meal and sometimes for a place to sleep. In exchange he would take paintings for payment. I spent many days drawing what I saw on our walls. I don't remember not drawing.
Immigrating to the U.S. in the mid 1950's my love of art and drawing had taken hold. I became obsessed with American comic books, and like my father, I started creating my own stories complete with drawings. I continued illustrating all through High School and as a senior was allowed into an accelerated program at our local college. Transferring briefly to Berkeley, I soon became disillusioned with the art department and the upheaval of the 1960's in the Bay area of California. Shortly after President Kennedy's assassination I retreated back to Europe and subsequently gave up any further formal art education.
Art led me to Interior Design 30 years ago. I started doing architectural renderings for other designers and soon found that I was subtly changing their concepts for better color, furniture placement etc. A designer finally advised me to try design. After 10 years of learning my craft, I started my own independent design firm 20 years ago. Art was a huge plus in that field as I was able to do watercolor renderings for clients in the days before the design of CAD programs became available. It was during that time, that not only did my clients commission paintings, but I sold to commercial jobs for lobbies or corporate offices.
I consider myself self taught, although as a corporate wife I took advantage of private lessons in many states that my husbands company sent us to. The last with the late John Squire Adams in San Antonio who taught me portraiture. Now retired, I am devoting full time to my passion....Art from the HEART!
